Corundum Brick: The Ideal Refractory Material for High-Temperature Industrial Kilns

Home > Single Post

In modern high-temperature industries such as metallurgy, petrochemicals, glass manufacturing, and power generation, the performance of kiln lining directly determines production efficiency and equipment lifespan. Is committed to providing high-quality Corundum Brick solutions to help you meet the severe challenges of extreme working conditions.

What is a Corundum Brick?

A Corundum Brick is an advanced refractory material with an alumina (Al₂O₃) content exceeding 90% and corundum as the main crystalline phase. Thanks to its superior physical and chemical properties, it has become a core protective material for environments characterized by high temperature, high pressure, and strong corrosion.

Product Classification and Characteristics

Based on differences in production processes and microstructures, Corundum Bricks are primarily categorized into two types:

  • Sintered Corundum Brick: Made from high-purity industrial alumina and fired at temperatures above 1750°C. It features a dense crystal structure and low porosity, offering excellent erosion resistance and wear resistance.
  • Fused Cast Corundum Brick: Produced by melting raw materials in an electric arc furnace and casting them into molds. This type has an extremely dense structure with virtually no pores and very high mechanical strength, making it an ideal choice for critical areas such as glass tank furnaces.

Core Performance Advantages

  • Extremely High Refractoriness: The load-softening temperature is greater than 1700°C, and the refractoriness exceeds 1790°C, ensuring long-term stability without softening or deformation under high heat.
  • Excellent Mechanical Strength: With a cold crushing strength of up to 340MPa, it withstands significant material impact and wear, even at elevated temperatures.
  • Superior Chemical Stability: It possesses strong resistance to acidic and alkaline slags, molten metals, and molten glass, significantly extending the service life of the kiln lining.
  • Good Thermal Shock Stability: Through formula optimization (such as Chrome Corundum Bricks), thermal shock resistance can be effectively enhanced to adapt to working conditions with drastic temperature fluctuations.

Application Areas

  • High-Purity Sintered Corundum Bricks: Widely used for linings in blast furnaces, hot blast stoves, and petrochemical industrial furnaces.
  • Fused Cast Corundum Bricks: Suitable for the working chamber, burner breastwall, and tank walls of glass tank furnaces, ensuring the purity of the molten glass.
  • Chrome Corundum Bricks: Incorporating chromium oxide (Cr₂O₃) to form a solid solution, these are particularly suitable for strong corrosive environments such as coal-water slurry gasifiers and waste incinerators.

As a core refractory material in high-temperature industries, the quality of Corundum Bricks is directly related to kiln operating efficiency and lifespan. Leveraging years of technical expertise and a deep understanding of industrial processes, we are dedicated to providing stable and reliable Corundum Brick products for the metallurgy, glass, petrochemical, and ceramic industries.
