Refractory Mortar: The Key Material for High-Temperature Kiln Masonry

Home > Single Post

In high-temperature industries such as steel, glass, cement, and ceramics, Refractory Mortar serves as the jointing material for laying refractory bricks. It plays a vital role in bonding, sealing, and resisting erosion, directly impacting the integrity and service life of the kiln lining.

We are dedicated to the R&D and production of high-quality refractory mortar, providing reliable and comprehensive solutions.

What is Refractory Mortar?

Refractory mortar is a mixture of refractory powder, binders, and additives, used for laying refractory bricks and coating kiln linings. Its primary functions are to fill brick joints, bond brick bodies, prevent the penetration of high-temperature gases or melts, and accommodate the thermal expansion and contraction of the kiln.

Based on material composition, refractory mortar is categorized into Fireclay, High-Alumina, Silica, Magnesia, and Corundum types, each designed to match the corresponding refractory brick material.

Core Performance Features

  • High Bonding Strength: Forms a strong ceramic bond with refractory bricks at high temperatures, ensuring structural stability.
  • Excellent Sealing: Fills brick joints to form a dense seam, preventing the penetration of high-temperature flue gas and slag.
  • Superior Workability: Good plasticity and water retention prevent cracking caused by drying shrinkage.
  • Thermal Expansion Matching: Matches the coefficient of thermal expansion of the same material bricks, preventing masonry cracking.
  • Strong Erosion Resistance: Possesses good chemical stability against acidic or basic slags.

Main Product Types

Our product line covers various application scenarios to meet the needs of different industrial kilns:

  • High-Alumina Refractory Mortar: Suitable for laying high-alumina bricks. It features a high load-softening temperature and good slag resistance, widely used in key areas like blast furnaces and hot blast stoves.
  • Fireclay Refractory Mortar: Primarily used for fireclay brick masonry. With good bonding and plasticity, it is an economical choice for general industrial kilns.
  • Silica Refractory Mortar: Designed specifically for coke ovens and glass kilns (silica brick masonry). It offers volume stability at high temperatures and strong resistance to acidic slag erosion.
  • Magnesia Refractory Mortar: Suitable for basic environments such as converters and electric arc furnaces, possessing extremely strong resistance to basic slag.
  • Chemically Bonded Refractory Mortar: Features fast-drying and high-strength properties, suitable for special conditions requiring rapid kiln drying or emergency repairs.

Although refractory mortar is a small component, it is an indispensable key material in high-temperature kiln masonry. Leveraging years of technical expertise, we are committed to providing stable and reliable refractory mortar products for the metallurgy, glass, cement, ceramics, and petrochemical industries.
